Frequently Asked Questions

  Important Information
We are aware of several issues in The Study Bible app on both iOS and Android. We are actively addressing them and are working on a new version of The Study Bible app on all platforms. We are committed to "Unleashing God's Truth, One Verse at a Time" through The Study Bible apps. We appreciate your patience and look forward to offering you an enhanced Bible study experience soon.
Which Bible version does the app use?
The Study Bible allows you to choose between the New American Standard Bible (NASB) and the English Standard Version (ESV). It is very simple—and free—to switch between the two versions. Keep in mind that “John’s Notes” are based on the ESV version of The MacArthur Study Bible.
On what devices can I install The Study Bible?
We’ve developed the app for Apple (iOS 7 or higher) and Android-based (Jelly Bean 4.1 or higher) smartphones and tablets. Since the Amazon Kindle Fire is an Android-based device, it may be possible to install the app, but it is not officially supported.
I have iOS and Android devices. Do I need to purchase “John’s Notes” twice?
No! When you purchase “John’s Notes,” they will be available on every device where you’ve signed in to the app with your Grace to You account. After purchasing “John’s Notes” on one device, restart the app (don’t just close and open) on any other device to make the notes available.
I already own The MacArthur Study Bible. Do I still have to purchase the app version?
Yes. We’ve made “John’s Notes” as affordable as possible, knowing that many users already own The MacArthur Study Bible.
Are Grace to You’s translated resources available on the app?
Only English resources are accessible through the Bible App. However, we plan to make other languages available in the future.
Does the app require Wi-Fi or a data connection?
No and yes. The Bible text and “John’s Notes” do not require a network connection to use. However, access to the vast library of Grace to You resources—sermons, articles, Q&As, study guides, etc.—does require a Wi-Fi or data connection.
How much does the app cost?
We are excited to make this app available free of charge. This gives you access to the complete English Standard Version Bible text and all the resources of Grace to You. You can access the resources of The MacArthur Study Bible through the in-app purchase of “John’s Notes” for $5.99.
I just downloaded the app. Why is it asking me to download more files?
Google Play limits how large an app can be for its original download. The Study Bible exceeds Google Play’s limitation. We decided to keep the initial download as small as possible to allow you to download the rest when you have the best connection.
Can I download sermons to listen to later?
The app allows you to listen while you’re using the app online. If you want to download sermons to listen offline, we recommend our Sermon App.
How can I provide feedback on the app?
We would love to hear your feedback. Within the app you can open the menu and select “About GTY.” From that screen you can rate the app or provide feedback. Or, make suggestions and offer feedback anytime by emailing us at [email protected].
What's the best way to hear about app updates and releases?
Those who are signed in to the app will receive emails when there are major updates and feature additions. We are already hard at work on adding features and improving the app, so be sure to sign in to the app so we can keep you up to date.
